Welcome to Bugfoo.com

Bugfoo is a commercial php debugging and script analysis utility that is in active development and currently in alpha testing. It has more than 45 tools for accomplishing different tasks, all accessible in a very easy-to-use GUI, including numerous features you won't find in other debuggers including:

  • a variety of powerful search tools for quick location of functionalities or problems your PHP code
  • history functions for "recording" script output, especially page requests which happen in the "background" (i.e., Ajax), or PHP for page elements such as images, frames, javascript, and stylesheets
  • benchmarking tools useful for point-to-point benchmark comparisons
  • database tools for quickly locating queries. Also tools with featured databases for locating inefficient queries and optimization features with GPL db admin scripts like Phpmyadmin to quickly see query results (only featured database at the moment is MySQL – Postgres coming soon, we hope to support SqLite and other databases like Oracle and MSSQL later as well).
Read our what it is page for more detailed information on Bugfoo's features.

Current disadvantages/annoyances of Bugfoo as a debugger

  • Scripts to be debugged / analyzed must be installed in a special scripts directory.
Hopefully in the next version this will no longer be necessary.
  • Bugfoo does not do stepping, and probably never will.  For developers who wish to do stepping in debugging it is possible to use Bugfoo in combination with other debuggers.  Bugfoo is an altogether different type of utility; advanced PHP developers will want to use both a classical PHP debugger which features stepping for point-work involving complicated interaction of variables, and use Bugfoo for other types of script analysis and debugging.
